AFRICAN PORTRAITS
During my stay in PETEGOLI, BURKINA FASO, see Reportage, I asked the women whether they would like me to do a portrait for each of them. So, every afternoon around 5pm, 10-15 women would pose for me in the small courtyard in front of my hut. Not easy with the light changing rapidly - at 6pm it was black! and with the neighbors and especially all the kids for audience.
I meant to offer a portrait to the fifty women potters; but I ended up doing more than hundred portraits, because the "good news" were spreading - and not only to the women!
Back in France, all the portraits were edited, printed in a nice format, and plastified. Unfortunately, because of the Mali situation already then not too good, I was unable to go back myself, but all the photos were delivered to the village. I am told that nobody complained.
